Hello group,
Someone (who I have to assume is on the island) tried to scam me today and thought I would pass the info on to the group so none of you get scammed in the same way.
I posted signs around the island regarding a canoe that we have for sale. Today I received an e-mail from someone claiming to be interested in the canoe. I responded, answering all his questions. He then responded, offering me $1,000 more than my asking price and said that he would be paying by cashiers check, and that if I would just give him my name, address and phone number he would have the check sent right away via courier and would have the canoe picked up by his "shipper".
I immediately got suspicious, so I responded with some further questions. He then responded very short, and mildy hostile, insisting that I give him my personal information so he could send the check.
He used 2 different names in 2 different e-mails..... Leo Smith and Paul Smith. And both were from a Yahoo address.
Please be aware that we are not immune to these kinds of scams, even on the island, and be careful giving out any personal information.
In the mean time... if anyone is looking for a canoe we still have it for sale. It is a Mad River Canoe, Freedom Model.. 15ft, green in color. They sell new in the states for $1750 and we are asking $850. The canoe is in excellent condition. Please respond off line if you are interested.
