The purpose of the meeting was to deliver recommendations to the law makers on more effective ways to deal with the petty crimes that have been on the rise throughout the islands. Mayor Jerry Hynds and Congressman Evans McNabb led the entourage and asked the Honorable Oscar Alvaraz, Minister of Security, to put further measures in place to ensure that locals and tourists alike are safer and that the bad elements are removed from the Bay Islands. A recent increase in criminal activity has been a hot topic on the Roatan chat rooms and this has prompted the Govenor and others to take action to prevent this from getting to a level that would be unfavorable for the continued economic growth of the Bay Islands. Their plan seemed to work as the activities of the police and other government agencies has already brought results.
