Lesley - I believe there are still flights off of Roatan to La Ceiba after your arrival (Islena has a 6:40 PM departure if the schedule at their web site is correct). Wake up the next morning at a bit more liesurely pace to make the 9:30 AM ferry to Utila. You can almost cover the cost of a stay at a nice place in La Ceiba for what you will pay a taxi for the round trip from the airport and back again on Roatan. On the return there is a 6:20 AM ferry off Utila (a 1 hour trip) or flight options back through La Ceiba where you can fly to Roatan or take the ferry (a 10:00 AM departure still I believe and about 1:45 trip). I have taken the ferry several times and enjoyed the trip. March weather should be perfect for a boat ride. Have fun!
