Don...All three of my digs were stray pups of about seven to eight weeks
old that we rescued from a swamp in Pollytilly...we rescued five total,
from two different litters. One died the next morning, and its brother
is a happy mutt now living in the Bronx, NY. We kept the other three
from the same litter; all had the same mom, we're told, but all
obviously had different dads. One is a black female we named Elle, and
her dad must have had a great deal of bird dog in him; the next, a mutt
we named Tim, with reddish hound features, looks a good bit like his
mom...or so I'm told...she died. The third, however, Sam, sounds the
world like the dog who just showed up at your place. We found our dog at
your village in 2000. My bet is that his dad is still around and is NOT
neutered, and was at least still passing genes until ...how old did you
say your new dog is? If so, he will make a truly good freind to have
about. Of course I can't explain how he managed to get himself neutered.
Our Sam is quite clearly part Golden Retriever....our caretaker's family
call him "Pinto" because of his golden spots with an off white
background that tends to lighten evertime we bathe him, and he loses a
bit of that island red clay. He is my wife's favorite, while I geuss I
tend to prefer Elle...maybe because she prefers me? Good luck on finding
the owner of your new dog...I think he already has!
All the best...dke
