    Subject: [roatan] West Bay Dredging

    Dear Supporters of Roatan:

Concerning the proposed dredging in the West Bay area I would like to make the following comments. These comments come from someone who doesn't know about the area, has only been to Roatan for a few hours and really has no idea of how things work there; but I do know the investment and real estate business.

I have heard a name mentioned and I do not know if it is accurate or not but there are as many as three entities involved in that proposed project.

    1. The owner of the pier and/or land.
    2. The company that might be involved in the sales of the resultant yacht slips.
    3. A money investor who might be in the background.

Some of you might already have answers to who those three entities are. I don't. But I do know this.

A good deal of money has already been invested in the proposed project in just bringing the dredging equipment to that location.

If a permit was legally obtained before and the laws have not changed then what is to prevent them getting another permit.

Big money talks BIG! And that is a big project. Around $1,000.000 US.

Someone stands to pocket a big hunk of change and would not have to have any further interest in the welfare of Roatan once the slips are sold.

I applaud your initial efforts; but do not think for even a second that it is over and done with. Here in the US there are procedures for notification of interested parties; ecological studies to be done and adhered to and chances for public hearings. I have no idea what applies to your homeland but I hope you can do something about the project.

But you will have to think big. By that I mean giving the entities involved an equally beneficial monetary reason to not proceed with the project. Public opinion can be very powerful but will have little effect until names are named, accurately, and proper pressure brought to bear.

Hopefully this has helped, even if only an iota.

    Robert Black
