We stayed at Foster's West Bay beach last Feb. (One of our three
visits to the island this year) I grew to hate cruise ship day. I
know it is good for the local economy (in the short run). After the
party goers had returned to their ship my 6 & 9 year old knew it was
time to grab all the plastic bags we had accumulated from the
grocerie store. We walked down the beach picking up all those endless
little white plastic cups floating in the surf. napkins, plastic
bags, sun screen, packaging from floaties or souvenirs. We filled 10
grocerie sacks with it. We then deposited it into the MANY trash cans
in front of hotels along the beach. That was just what was above
water. We had seen and collected as much as we could during our
snorkle trips. btw the bottles were not so abundant at the end
of the day because many locals will at least collect those to turn
into $. Do cruise people actually think that ROATAN is like a day
at Disney? Complete with workers to pick up after them. It was
heartbreaking and disgusting!! I have never seen so many people with
such a lack of environmental awareness.

We all need to be diligent to protect and educate about the abundance
of beauty and natural resources on Roatan. Lets not let it become
another over developed, resort spot. I want the whole world to enjoy
the uniqueness of Roatan, but responsibly .
    My two cents
