It is nice to see people who are moving to our beautiful island
expressing an interest in preserving the environment. The Sandy Bay
and West End Marine Park or Roatan Marine Park as it is now more
commonly known has now been in existence for almost two years and is
working hard to coordinate the efforts of keen volunteers such as
yourself Gayleen. Please drop by our office in West End and find
out more about our activities to see were you may be able to help.
You are also welcome to attend one of our directors meetings which
are usually held at 9am on Tuesday mornings although you are best
advised to check a few days beforehand the exact time and dates as
the directors do change it to suit their schedules.
The trash washing up during this time of year is washing out of
rivers on the mainland in the large part, but it is alarming to hear
that it is being buried on the beach. Usually the non biodegradable
trash is carted away to the landfill in Mud hole while the turtle
grass and other organic materials are buried. Is it possible that
is what you saw, I hope so! If not please let us know which
establishment you saw this happening outside of so we can talk to
the owners about more environmentally friendly practices.
