It would help to know how much money she is talking about. And where will she store the container once it is here?

She is the most loving giver. I am afraid she flunks at asking and recieving.
Lets help her send this comtainer now. It is all packed and ready to go.
So many books and school supplies.
Angela is at Tropicana Beach club......just past Lawson Rock on the sea side.
Donations can be dropped off there. I will get the wiring instructions later so please contact me directly for them or pay pay pal info.
If you know of any developers on the island please forward this to them.
. This is one of the hardest things for me to beg, but my mom has such a big heart and is lead by it. She has spent months working on a container, collecting, buying school supplies and vitamins, Christmas gifts for all the little angels on the island or at least 1600. She has asked several shipping company to assist but no help there. the Container is filled with Christmas, Vacation Bible School, Items for the Ebanks Family that lost their homes and business, School supplies, clothes, baby stuff, books, wheel chairs, good stuff.
My dad gave the go ahead to bring the 40 ft container to our yard and watch his wife spend 10-14 hours a day sorting compacting consolidating , taking truck after truck of empty boxes to the recycle place
We can not pay to send it ourselves. The people who had said they would collect donations flaked out. So she changed her ticket for a week and has been trying to get donations, from trucking companies and shippers with no luck She is a wreck.
Please if you have any idea other than my dads, of taking it to the dump. Or if you can send money or check or pay pal ,deposit whatever to make Christmas and my moms dream happen. We are a 501c3 so if you need a break on taxes here is an opportunity.
My mom did this container in our yard by herself a little help from Raymond and my dad breaking down boxes.
It was a labor of love.
Sorry for the unexpected last minute email. I hope you can help out and that my mom isn't mad that I took matters into my own hands.
thank you

I am honored to serve as the chair of Dale Jackson's Education Commission. We are charged with developing a plan for improving education in Roatan, called VISION 2020. We have been working since late March to understand the current system and develop recommendations by the end of October. Our research shows that we have approximately 50,000 school-aged children in the Bay Islands (35,000 in Roatan!). Only 14,230 enrolled school last year (that's 1 out of 4) and of that group 51% dropped out by 6th grade. Only 404 students compketed colegio (high school).
Teachers have few teaching supplies, and most students have no books. We do not have enough schools or classrooms. Schools are so overcrowded that even with double sessions, we can't serve all the children. Because there are no textbooks, most teaching in the primary schools is done by writing the lesson on the board and having the kids copy the lesson. The municipal is adding classrooms as fast as they can, but it is just a drop in the bucket. For example, they just built a new school in the Sandy Bay Colonia. Unfortunately it only has 3 classrooms for 2000 elementary children.
We are going to need lots of people like you to help us bring VISION 2020 to life. We're looking at teacher training; innovative technology; extended school days; cooperative projects between the schools and medical personnel, businesses, tradesmen; middle schools that feed into high schools; etc. (Currently there is one high school and two middle schools in Roatan.)
One strategy will be to create Adopt-A-Schools throughout the island. That way the community will get to know their neighborhood school and what is needed. They can advise people like you as to what is needed, and then oversee the distribution, so donations are used the way they were intended. Several school sin the USA have expressed interest in addopting a school on Roatan.
When you come to the island, please know teachers and students will appreciate anything you bring. Pencils, art supplies, puzzles, workbooks, mazes, and other problem-solving activities are really needed here. Most USA school districts have leftover textbooks -- many have dual language books (each lesson is written in English and Spanish). Spanish-language books would be great as well. If you could call your school district warehouse director and see what's available, we'd really appreciate it. Classroom sizes here average 45 kids, so we need at least 100 books of each subject so all the kids and the teacher have the same book.
Another wonderful donation would be Spanish-language children's books -- any grade level. They are really difficult to find in Honduras. Ted and I raid book stores when we go to the mainland, and if we're lucky, find a dozen.
I could go on forever with needs -- just assume you are a teacher with 50 kids and no materials--- then pack your goody bags!
NOTE: if you bring pencils, please pack pencil sharpeners -- but not the plastic ones that break as soon as the bag is opened. Kids need heavy-duty sharpeners!
Thanks, and I hope I get to meet you while you are here. Try to make the Tequila Downs Crab Races on Thursday night -- and we can talk then.
Thanks for caring.

It is so great to meet people that are willing to help the children in Roatan. We had also brought uniforms and money for tuition's, the money was not used for the projects they had, and the uniforms were missing. We found it easier to bring boxes of pencils. pens, erasers, composition books, crayons rulers, pencil sharpeners, small pads to write notes, post notes, staplers, and small things . What we did then, was buy the the plastic pencil holders and we filled them with all the goodies expect for composition and writing paper. ( Dollar Store was great ) It made every child felt important and special.

llyn100 w Hi...
My daughter and son-in-law (Wendy & Andrew Flood) live on Roatan and
I'm coming to visit at Christmas. Wendy thought you "guys" could help
me. I'm an R.N. who works in a High School with medically fragile
kids. We want to start a project to buy school supplies for the kids
in Roatan which I can bring when I come. What I'd like to know is what
they need. And... Wendy said that they can't go to school if they
don't have uniforms and/or tuition. How much are these uniforms and
tuition? Would it be better to raise money for the uniforms and
tuition or school supplies or both?
The kids here are wondering if there's a high school in Roatan and if
they could write to some of the kids. Is that possible? Is there a way
we could get some pictures to use in our posters?
Thanks for your help. We appreciate it.
Peace & Love,
Llyn Wren
