    OK,
I can already see the next argument. Unlike Florida where there is a deffinate mile marker system starting in Key West Roatan has a few different roads. Where would mile marker one go? Would it be at the southern most point? Where is that exactly? I assume it is Towards West Bay but proably on the South Shore. Who would pressure that they have the biggest most popular place and they should be number one. What would we do as far as marking the road thru Sandy Bay as opposed the the coast road in Flowers Bay. My watchmans house is the last house accesible from the coast road by car on the western end of Flowers Bay, would he get to be MM1 for the southshore? then what happens when something is finally built in Mangrove Bight and now there is a driveway from the West Bay road. Of course there are smal roads all over the Island but really. I am a pretty simple guy and had no trouble finding Welby's for dog food, fertilizer and such in French Harbor, I have never had anyone
complain they could not find my home, Back in the day Sandy and Waylon did not have any large signage and they were well off the beaten path, the list goes on and on and I think Dorothy really hit it on the head, if you have a quality business offering good reasonably priced service then you will do well as long as there is a need. I do wonder about some and there may be a bigger need than appears but some busineses just dont seem to fit and I dont know if a bigger sign would help, IE> Tiny dohnuts, organic dogfood, etc. I see more problems with people opening a business without any real Idea how to run it. There are a lot of good ideas and businesses that open with a bang but the lack of consistancy and not the lack of a sign is their ultimate downfall. I will not get into any specifics but think about how often you have been told something along the lines of " it is supposed to be here tomorrow". After that happens a time or two I shop around and they may lose a customer
no matter what size sign they have and I may find someone better. Of course there are shipping delays and such but unless something is really new than many succesfull business should be able to keep more than a weeks inventory or the most popular items, of course if they dont track that type of thing they have no Idea and then wonder why they may lose business. I was amazed back in November, after looking for the better part of a week I had to go to the mainland for an electric meter and cable clips to be hooked up.
    Anyway
Thats enough from me for a while but seriously, do you really think that many people will randomly de heading down the road with no intention of looking for your business and then turn in because of a sign? I would need a tractor trailer to buy all the oranges and surfboards I could if the billboards heading south on I95 thru florida really did that much.
Have a great day, I will keep my little tiny sign and continue to tell people i am the tall Blue House west of the old methodist church in Flowers Bay. Serrano's has never had any trouble finding me to deliver and collect their bill.

I think the mile markers would answer the questions about where the businesses are located and also where one can find a friends home. Many years ago, everyone knew where everyone else lived and you could ask anyone for directions.

The sign at Coral Cay is HORRIBLE and I hope Jerry has the good sense to destroy it. A carved wooden sign would be more tasteful. As far as needing a HUGE sign to advertise your business so you can make money? If you came here to increase your fortune, you have come to the wrong place. The only famous "Green Flash" seen on alot of Caribbean Islands, is seen on Roatan as you open your wallets and pull out green dollars.

I have seen them come and seen them go, but if your business is a good one, you only need a reasonable size sign on your own property, not along the public roadway to annoy everyone, I for one would not patronize anyone who would do that to our beautiful island.

I am sure the huge sign advertising the big mall, will disappear when it is built. I well remember seeing huge signs along the roadways (long before Expressways) advertising Harrrah's gambling Casino in Las Vegas, and this was in Kentucky! what eyesores. Lets keep Roatan beautiful if possible. Dorothy
