Hi everyone.
I've been reading the digests from this group for the last week or so. I've really enjoyed it. Now its my turn to write and maybe ask a question or two.
First of all, my wife is from Utila. She grew up there and her parents are still there (lifelong residents). They are Will & Norma Hinds of Blueberry Hill.
My wife and I visited Utila last year in January. We are trying to work a trip into our finances and schedule in June (next month). This time I want to visit Roatan too. Last time I let myself get sunburned playing out in the ocean by the Cayes next to Utila.
I have alot of experience with Internet technology, and in fact I do web hosting and web site building for my main income. Last time I was in Utila I noticed how backwards the Internet service was, and still is.
I am very serious about bringing a satellite downlink to Utila for myself, and secondly to provide service to others on the island. I recently heard of another company that was planning on doing that but the guy who was in Utila hasn't been heard from since. I understand his name was Matt, but that's all I know at this point.
Why do I want to do this? My wife and I want to move to Utila to be with her parents as they are getting quite old and want her around.
I know most people on this list don't live in the Bay Islands, but for those who do, I'd like to know your thoughts on this and if you do know of any other options already planned and being deployed, maybe I wouldn't have to do this. The cost is kind of expensive.
Another question, what does it cost to make phone calls from Honduras to the USA?
I guess that's it for now. Thanks in advance for your replies.
David
