Steve is right on this, and I hope you are
adventursome enough to trust that. My fiance and I
flipped a coin last month; Belize or Roatan. Well,
Roatan won, and needless to say, we booked our tickets
on the spur of the moment. We booked LA - El Salvador
    - San Pedro Sula. Then, we did as Steve suggests and
it worked out fine. Just be prepared for the smaller,
propeller planes used from San Pedro Sula to La Cieba,
and then, onto Roatan. There is no overhead air on
those planes so dress cooly and hold on!

    Good luck!
